Gone.

A hurricane of movement and commotion as machines buzzed overhead. The room immaculate shining metal, almost programmed to be this clean and pristine. Still nothing more than a factory where men and woman alike turned to machines as their memories disappeared. The cold beads of thick liquid oozed from my scalp. Pain. Stop. What. Is. Happening to me? Mankind to machine – to think that this was happening in rooms just like this all across the world, I shuddered.

My eyes sunk into the crevices of my face and my heavily grown stubble felt cold against the metal of the surgery room table. My arms itched against the restraints of the table, as machines around me beeped and hummed with the sound of conversion. Soon I would be nothing but another machine, cold and without meaning or feeling like so much of mankind already. My mind wandered as I thought of all the pain and suffering of the past months - as mankind was converted into machines.

What wasn't run down these days? Everything in sight overcome with complete and utter devastation from skyline to skyline, except – My eyes caught sight of this giant great oak that had somehow grown through the turmoil outside. I thought about that tree, about its wide branches. How it dipped and curved about reaching towards the sky – How perfect life had been before we started wanting more, before we pushed mankind to its limits. Those 4 years since the first attack I had spent thinking a lot about life and about that glorious smell of fresh rain. I could not help but be overcome with the feeling of being lost, and how much I missed the way she used to hug me during the storms.

The days had passed by slower and slower since the first attack, and as each human was converted we lost a little bit more of humanity. I was one of the final renegades, the final few. I had been free from it all for so long, venturing the stretched planes beyond where it first began, but here I was back again.

I have been running from this all for far too long - But to end up here? I wish now that I had kept running. Surrounded by nothing but a world of unfeeling machines, and crushing destruction except for-
I was cold, so unbearably cold. The feeling of cold that makes a man feel hollow inside, nothing but dust and bones.  Maybe I’d been running from this all for far too long. Maybe if I had let myself get taken all those years ago I wouldn’t have had to be alone for as long as I have. I watched as that machine overtook the city, the ones I loved some of the first to be converted.

The past so different from the present.

4 years.

Going.

I am standing on that old coastline, the one where my pop would pick those strawberries from his beachside garden. I think of the life before me, I have finished high-school now; I could backpack around the country, eat mysterious foods, and define myself.  I can feel pop’s arm around me as a stare out at the waves crashing on the shoreline, and the passing sun painting the sky a beautiful gold. The wind is blowing through my hair as I let the chilled sea breeze float me along with it.

Gone.

I am lieing on this table as the bell sounds for the next stage of extraction. Which memories had I already lost? Will I relive those terrible times in the wild, or will those be something easily forgotten.
What did this all mean, Stop. Why would you take this from a person and then take their body too, what's left to prove? The machines already have it all, and now they want my memories too. I had forgotten what it had been like to be still without a racing heart and fear for what would surge from the darkness. To think that this had all begun with wanting something more beyond the simplicities of life that surrounded us, the beauty that was found in even the most simple a thing.

Metal shards and crunching gears replacing the parts where bones and flesh should be. Overtaking the parts that made a human a human and turning a man into a serving machine. I am me, I had a future beyond all this – I had a future with her but that doesn’t matter now. Because -
Soon my memories would be turned to ash and nothing more.  I stopped caring, I stopped empathizing hours ago. Feeling almost gone now,

Love?

Love… just a whisper to the bustle of sounds that came before it, and that should have come after it. I loved so much – or at least that’s what I remember. Though I’d  not remembered what love felt like – to feel it. To know that someone feels it for me. Everything is becoming so silent now, as it is being replaced with a grinding of gears and metal. Just like the volume -

Going.

I remember my father swooping me up in his warm comforting arms. Memories flashing past my face of embracing him as he walked through the door, and holding him as tight as my 5 years old arms would allow.  I felt the pain of watching him leave and knowing that he would not be back for what seemed like an eternity. My dad was only young then, making sacrifices for the family he loved and doing anything he could to keep us safe.

Gone.

Why am I here on this cold table being converted into nothing but raw machinery? This war, not worth the lives it would take to win.  A fight not worth the men and women that would sacrifice themselves to win it before it was done. The ultimate sacrifice –human memories, human thoughts that were thrown into a mathematical matrix and the remaining parts of them all but flesh turned to metal.

These memories would somehow help save mankind and we would never get them back. Once they were gone, they were gone. Finality. No one really understood why this was happening or why we were needlessly disposed of even how it all began. All we cared about was running from the thing that would steal our individuality and our memories from us for a better world.

Ideals, that’s all we are. An ideal for a better world.. I could spit at it. The rage boiling up inside me…. I see they haven’t taken that yet.

Figures.

Rage.  What a terrible feeling to be left with, as my final memories drift out of me as I lay here -until each and every thing that defined me is ripped from my aging bones.

Aging?  but I am filled with no memories of my aging . 29. The age I would be, If I was not being replaced with metals and gears that will be forced to grind for a cause it has no need to understand. Aging and aging fast, some sick joke if you ask me. We are forced to die for this cause, and we have to age the years through as they are stolen from us, feel what it feels to become older but feel no gain or pleasure in it. Not aging with friends, not seeing our love ones chase their dreams. Not catching that fleeting sunset as it passes behind the hills as we hold the one we love, closer and closer. But I no longer know what that feels like.

Going

The rain beaded through my thick hair as I stood staring on that hilltop, unsure of where my tears began and the falling rain met in synchronous union. So much destruction lay dormant behind my eyes. No. This can’t be, no no no. I was 25 when that crushing destructive beast lumbered itself among the tall skyscrapers of the inner city bustle. She was taken that day. She was converted. I would never get to sit cross legged across from her as we joked of places we’d travel and things we’d see.

“You know that horizon darling?” I asked her
“I know of it darling” Sarah smirked, as her lips curled gently.
“We are going to chase it one day” I replied
“I know Mark, I know”
and we both smiled and stared off into the distance

Gone

I had wandered the world looking for a stop to it all, why had we consumed ourselves with all this advancement and forgotten about the things that truly made the world around. This world that had come to be defined – no permitted by the absence of love and understanding and had been consumed by beings that had no need for these feelings.  If only I had told her I loved her once more, before the life of our kind fell so abruptly from our grasp. If only I had held my father a little tighter but here I am alone –idiot- IDIOT. I am angry with myself for everything I ever said, I ever did, I ever forgot.

A gust of wind rushes over my gears as they grind for this life I no longer understand. I no longer have any feeling, I am made of nothing but time and destruction. Time, the memory of it all slipped between my fingers, lost to the oblivion.

Going, Everything, Pain, Rage, The fear of it all.

Change

Change is brilliant, even if at the time you see it as completely rubbish. Tonight I have had the same sort of questions on my mind that I usually have but tonight I kind of feel like blogging about it. As always to try and make someone who may be going through something similar to not feel so alone. Cause believe me you bunch of beautiful Muppets, you are not.

So firstly let's start with some questions spinning around my brain ball, The current questions:

1. Who am I, and how can I make life for other people more remarkable?
2. How can I make the most of the opportunities in my life and show people I care for how much I care for    them?
3. How do I maintain happiness when I need to be strong for others, and be okay when I need someone around to be strong for me (and also being okay with not being okay for a little while)

When you go through a big change (kind of like a doctors regeneration, plays with the heart strings a tad) it is natural to have a lot of thoughts going on in your head, and tonight for some weird emotional reason I was plagued by this persistent social anxiety that is a constant voice in the back of my mind, that I won't have anything constructive to add to someone else's existence and once I move on from seeing friends or from a workplace, that my existence will be just remnants and not lasting.  Which is of course ridiculous because every moment you spend with someone else you become part of their world. So, as I must learn. Don't sweat it, you matter and your company matters and you most definitely have something (no wait everything to add to someone else's existence). Just try your best to be there for someone else and allow your self to be in that moment and share what you are with them.

This thought process only occurs when i'm going through a hard time or change and is related to an event in my life that happened to me at the end of high school, where I fell massively in love with a beautifully flawed individual that shared my insecurities. It didn't quite turn out and I haven't talked to her in about a year and a half, and don't get me wrong, even though the months of my heart being in pain were awful. The experience helped me grow insanely as an individual and ask a lot of big questions. We shared some great times together she helped me believe in myself and these memories don't stop being any less important and maybe one day we can be friends again.I know one thing though I won't let these voices become who I am, I will drive towards change and surrounding myself with brilliant people who care about me and finding interests that I love (such as writing) to make life brighter... But you know something?

Garden state.

In the past few weeks I have once again been hit by the wave of change, that is the whirlpool of human existence. That drives us headfirst into change, my IT support contract at a job I was working at ended which means leaving a workplace I really loved. To everyone I met from this experience, thank you for teaching me more about computer hardware  and understanding people than I thought I ever could know. I promise I won't forget it. Though this is a definite downer, as it means starting all over at a new place and once I get the right qualifications hopefully finding somewhere new....I don't know maybe.. just maybe it will be an exciting new adventure.

The 3rd semester of my degree is over as of last week, which officially means I am halfway through my degree (all of my woot!). I have put a lot of myself into this semester and I think i am evolving along the pokemon like chain of existence that is the life of a student. Finished off the semester with drinks with fantastic individuals who really make me feel like I belong. Have I mentioned Lan parties are fantastic, they completely and utterly are. I also have a couple of projects to work on over my uni break such as building a computer with a good friend, getting work qualifications, IT study mentor training, catching up with people who I haven't seen in a while and hopefully build a robot! (this would be awesome, but you know baby steps) and as always a humongous pile of books on my reading list (currently about 7 books high >.>.... awesome). Also i'm Finishing surveying my uni campus with a good chap to help a Phd student with a mobile direction app.

I hope everything is going well with you and as always I am here to talk about practically anything, thank you so much for reading this. Don't be afraid of change, and to acknowledge that you aren't always the person you want to be but each day, each change is driving you towards that person. So don't give up hope, you are brilliant and completely individual. When you get that voice in your head like I had tonight, just remember the wise words of the doctor:

We are going to make it.

So people always say that once you figure out who you want to be, you're halfway there to being the type of person you want to be right?

I struggle everyday with my anxiety and depression, fighting back the voices that say i'm not good enough or I can't make it through all of this or that I will never figure out those answers to the big questions. The thing I am beginning to learn though is that  if you fight, and I mean truly fight for your friends and family, for the person you want to be, the beliefs that you stand for.

We
Are
Going
To
Make
It

I promise you that. Sure i'm still fighting for it, but I am here. Right here fighting for it, right here beside you. Fighting to learn enough to be confident in myself, have the right answers and be okay with myself when I still have answers to find.

We are going to be okay

A gig to see my hero

So it's official! A couple of days a go I saw a post on Frank Turners facebook page for upcoming gigs. I rushed to the gigs page, eagerly looking for anything... Literally ANYTHING in Australia. And Caloundra!! Kings Beach to be precise, on March 30th.

A thing I understand: It's hard to have heroes like real musical heroes these days but every since I heard the words of "Photosynthesis" I felt a part of something and have since listened to every possible Frank Turner song I can find since.

I suppose it's that when I first found that song I was at a pretty hard point in my life. Filled with pressures, and so many dreams for the future. That song made me feel whole.

Check it out, it is unconditionally rad. (My first Song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQMVHhxTtLc )

and the soul replenishing sound of the light guitar, and lyrics that make me feel like I'm a part of something. Not some body untethered floating amongst the universe.

Apart from that, I just went back to work. Which I'm really enjoying and I can't wait for this year to kick off.   Computers kind of rule (they seriously do). I still need to pick a specialisation (eeep), I hope I find me this year. Networks are cool right? Switches and server and such.N-n-n-networks.

I have also started to paint again... And it's wonderful. Pictures will follow soon I promise.

Any how, I hope everything is going well for you lovely people.

Life in all it's wibbly wobbly ness

Pip pip and all that. I'm Link, a 19 year old IT and pop culture nerd from Brisbane. Let's face it I'm a little dorky, a little quirky, a bit of a tech head and if you wanna get to know me.. I'll be your friend in time (Minus the whole Tardis, working on that really.. Also light sabers)

Anyhoo, bit of a me crash course.

Things I care about:
Belonging, friendship, kindness to strangers, not putting people down, supporting and caring for people what ever they go through, helping people to Laugh, and Most importantly Liking stuff

Things I like:
Doctor who, Star wars, John Green books, Back to the future, Adventure time, Marvel things, Watchmen, Lord of the rings (Hobbit soon!), BioShock  old school Mario, Scott Pilgrim, Velociraptors (the most rad thing ever), Minecraft!!, vlog brothers, Terraria, IT crowd,  to the moon and many other things.

May I just say, that I have met some of the most incredible people this year, had fantastic times with just brilliant people and I feel incredibly lucky to have the friends I have, and to have met the people I have.  My first semester was a double degree of science with IT, and well I began to Marvel at IT and its wonder and here I am now just doing IT as of second semester. Lets say technology captivated me... I also recently started a new job (Yay!) as part of the IT crowd at a high school. I really quite enjoy it :)

This year a lot of other cool things happened, such as starting a Pod cast with a cool friend of mine Mshaw29. We talk about games, rage a little, have a bit of fun and talk about tech stuff. Check it out! Really there is a tab :P . Tag In pod cast is our name and raging at conglomerate corporations is our game, oh and techy stuff :P

I am proud of the experiences I've had this year and the times I've shared with people, such as Sushi Fridays (really i have quite the sushi addiction, Standup comedy (also being hypnotised for the first time), velociraptors, having friends who care and friends that I can care about, minecrafting and good times, Fright night, Going to my first real GIG! (I have now seen cub scouts, loon lake, velociraptors, glass towers and a few others.. Though I see more gigging in my future), lord of the rings concert, playing munchkins at south bank  seeing one of my best friends graduate from navy recruit school in Melbourne and spending time with his rad family. Sure I've had some tough times this year, dealing with some very difficult things... But I'm glad I have the people in my life that I do. Because they really help me get by.

Anyway I'm almost on Holidays! and then there is Christmas and more adventures hopefully. Then there is choosing units for next year, and volunteering during orientation week. Everything seems to move so fast, like when you look out a car window and just see flashes of peoples faces and wonder if they'll ever know who you are?... Or if you'll ever know who they are.... I'm thinking networks or web development for next year.. not quite sure. But I have always loved a mystery. I hope to start this whole blogging thing and we'll see where this takes us.
